The One where It's NOT All in How They Were Raised
Tuesday Dec 01, 2020
Tuesday Dec 01, 2020
We've got a requested episode this week of a HOT topic...
Being better advocates means choosing our words carefully and knowing how powerful our words can be. People are listening to what you say when you're out with your dog or when the topic of dogs perceived as pit bulls comes up.
This phrase has got to go! We need to stop saying it ourselves and we have to have courage to help others to stop saying it as well.
Elevating your advocacy is hard. Heck, simply being a pit bull advocate is hard ~ but being a really great one... that's really big job. But these animals are worth it! We're the only voice they have! Make your voice deliberate, compassionate and rooted in kindness.
HUGS!

The One w/BSL
Tuesday Nov 17, 2020
Tuesday Nov 17, 2020
We recorded this episode months ago. Before Denver even knew they would be on the ballot. Before the campaign. Before the WIN. So when you hear any references to Denver, think 'post spring time loss due to Mayoral veto'.
Breed Specific Legislation is disturbing and makes my soul sad. For me it roots down so much deeper then dogs perceived as pit bulls because I feel it's a direct reflection of how our society deals with things we fear.
Exclude it. Push it out. Try to pretend it doesn't exist.
These types of thoughts are humanity problems as far as I'm concerned. The cool thing is that when we see it happening in one area and we identify it's wrong, that gives us an opportunity to explore where else it's happening and consider how we feel about it.
So that's the challenge for today. Learn. Identify. Consider.
When we know better we do better right?!? I love that you're here to elevate your advocacy with us! Thank you for being part of the solution!
HUGS!

The One w/out A Title
Tuesday Nov 10, 2020
Tuesday Nov 10, 2020
I LOVE being a Pit Bull Advocate. It's hard to put into words how much I cherish talking to people about their experiences and working together to find solutions to the host of problems that plague the animals we care so deeply for.
However, there are aspects of advocacy that are so hard. In doing the first 10 episodes of this podcast, I'm realizing that I've forgotten how difficult being an advocate has been... and how desensitized I've become to the plethora of problems. These things are new, raw and exceedingly difficult for so many of you on a daily basis.
Today's topic is likely going to be brand new information for the majority of our listeners. It's a very sensitive topic (hence the title... or lack there of) and a hard one to talk about... even with many years under my belt.
Please reach out with questions! Don't ever hesitate to contact me! michelle@pitbulladvocates.org
My hope with this episode is that you listen all the way through and that it allows you to elevate your advocacy a little more!

The One w/Replace Denver BSL
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Denver, Colorado has a ban on dogs perceived as pit bulls that has been in place for 30 years! Thousands of innocent dogs have perished, been displaced and suffered greatly simply because of their appearance.
On November 3rd, the citizens of Denver have an opportunity to change the future for all pit bull type dogs! I had the privilege of visiting Denver a few weeks ago to work along side the beautiful people of Replace Denver BSL - a group of some of the most hard working and dedicated folks I've ever met.
Enjoy my interview with Quinn, one of the organizers and founders of RDBSL. We had a great time sitting back and shooting the sh!t about Breed Specific Legislation, years of preparation, a devastating knock down and the monumental fortitude and perseverance it's taken to see the historical ballot measure 2J added to Denver's 2020 election!
Successful replacement of this ban is inexplicably important to the health and happiness of dogs known as pit bulls... but I have to say that regardless of the outcome on November 3rd...
I want ALL who took part in this campaign to know that you DID NOT FAIL. You gave everything you had and that's all you can do. There should be no regrets. I'm honored to have worked along side you.
HUGS!

Hope you enjoyed the interviews with K9 Ninja Roo Yori! If you haven't listened to them yet... WHY NOT?!? ;)
This week we have a sad and somber topic in talking about how these dogs were destined for disaster. On top of that, the villainous tunnel we're going through is incredibly long and the light at the end is incredibly far away.
Take heart though - the light IS there.
